Structural Engineer - Vertical Structures | Hybrid In this position, you would serve an important role in planning, analysis, design, detailing of new building structures and existing building renovation, with a current focus on transportation-related buildings such as rail and transit stations, parking facilities, and highway and railroad overbuilds. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB's emerging building design practice in Washington DC and Tysons Corner VA.
Responsibilities
* Develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structures
* Supports and mentors junior team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.
* Monitors of project budgets and schedules
* Assists with proposals and presentations for rail/transit pursuits
* Support building structural projects across VHB's footprint
Skills & Abilities
* Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering
* Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codes
* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* Demonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required, master's degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
* 5-8 years of structural engineering experience required.
* Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 6 months
* Experience with structural building renovations and new structural building construction on shallow and deep foundation
* Experience working on projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as WMATA, VRE, Amtrak, and/or other rail transit adjacencies preferred
* DC, VA and MD station experience preferred
* Familiarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery
Hiring Salary Range - $100,000 - $115,000. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.

Proficiency in the use of structural engineering and BIM software such as 3D Finite Element, RISA 3D, STAAD.pro PCA Design Software, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microstation
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required, master's degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
5-8 years of structural engineering experience required.
Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 6 months
Experience with structural building renovations and new structural building construction on shallow and deep foundation
Experience working on projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as WMATA, VRE, Amtrak, and/or other rail transit adjacencies preferred
DC, VA and MD station experience preferred
Familiarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery
Hiring Salary Range - $100,000 - $115,000. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.
