Position Summary Planning, evaluating, organizing and conducting pediatric speech therapy programs to facilitate growth in speech, language, swallow, cognitive and social development. The SLP will administer speech therapy evaluations, and assessments to determine a childs level of function relative to age in such areas as speech development, articulation, swallow function, social interaction, language and cognitive skills. They will also provide family training and planning for eventual discharge with home program as needed. The SLP will develop a treatment plan and monitor progress for each child on his/her caseload. This position requires independent clinical judgment, well- developed communication skills, and the ability to work well with coworkers and families of clients. As the SLP of a new organization, the SLP will also be an important consultant in developing policies, programs and will have input into the design of SLP related spaces and documents. Position Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Speech Therapy and licensed in the State of California. Minimum Experience: Preferred 1 year of clinical experience in a pediatric therapy setting. Proficiency in conducting evaluations in pediatric clinic-based setting. Required skills include planning, administering, scoring and interpreting tests related to speech services. Effective written and oral communication skills are also required throughout this process. A parent conference and a detailed assessment report are also provided for each evaluation and must be completed within two weeks. Determine areas of concern, identify goals, and develop treatment plans for clients. Document results of clients evaluation, treatment, follow-up and discharge concisely and accurately. Complete reports to be turned in no later than 2 weeks after the childs appointment Maintain a full patient load (approximately 7 hour long treatments per 8 hour day or the equivalent when working alternate schedules, and seeing at least 2 evaluations a week) while keeping up with timely documentation. Create and maintain positive relationships with families and children who visit clinic. Demonstrate ability to communicate difficult information in a kind and appropriate manner. Maintain thorough, up-to-date treatment notes on each client. Develop appropriate home programs for clients when applicable, demonstrating developmental strategies for perceptual, motor and sensory improvement. Provide direction, training, and assistance to interns and volunteers assigned to the speech therapy program. Supervise SLPAs assigned to your license per state and federal regulations. Demonstrate positive interaction with co-workers, clients, families, and third parties, treating all with respect and demonstrating responsiveness to their needs. Demonstrate adaptability to new people, procedures, and situations. Listen openly, and respond by applying suggestions made by directors. Attend staff and in-service meetings. Take the opportunity to occasionally lead in-service training. Exhibit knowledge of health and safety for the children and families, yourself, and others as outlined in Cal/OSHA standards. Assist with development of programs, protocols, and documents Research and advise on building SLP spaces and make recommendations regarding toys and equipment. Follow ASHA guidelines for ethical, high-quality job performance. Arrive to work promptly and demonstrate good time management skills. Identify own continuing education needs, and pursue continuing education courses. Perform related duties as assigned. Mentor when appropriate, educating other disciplines in SLP services and other SLPs and SLPAs as appropriate. Client preferences Single-family home 2 Female LP's living in the same home An Extended Family Home (Shared Living Provider) opens their home for an individual with a disability. This position requires an open bedroom and the ability to help care for an individual with a disability. The goal of this service is to encourage and teach skill development so the individual can be as independent as possible. This clients needs are behavior high risk with elopement and self-harm; therefore, restrictions and safeguards are in place accordingly. This subcontracting position is a work from home position, that you provide care and support for a person in your own home as well as provide transportation as needed.
