The Patient Safety Specialist (PSS) will be responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating programs to ensure that all clinical departments are following the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG's) and MWHC's patient safety program. The PSS will collect data through chart reviews and other methods while working with members of MWHC to identify opportunities to drive improvements in patient safety clinical outcomes and practice variation. Professional Practice/ Magnet Maintain a current knowledge of ANCC Magnet Nurse Sensitive Indicators (NSI) and Empirical Outcomes (EO) Requirements. Partners with the Manager of Nursing Quality to ensure that the Division of Nursing (DON) meets all data element (NSI and EO) requirements for Magnet redesignation. Collaborate with Professional Practice to ensure that the Division of Nursing meets all Magnet requirements; by assisting in setting, developing and implementing operational priorities to meet all Magnet redesignation milestones Quality, Safety & Regulatory Assist VP, Directors, and Managers in development, implementation and evaluation of services, programs, policies and procedures and performance standards to achieve departmental and organizational goals. Independently and collaboratively manage projects that support Nursing quality, safety and regulatory. Compose and disseminate nursing specific organization wide communication using organization forums to spread. Lead the implementation, measurement, monitoring and quality assurance for accuracy of assigned nursing quality indicators (Nursing Quality indicators is inclusive of Nurse Sensitive Indicators), hospital quality, safety and regulatory indicators. Analyzes and interrupts data from various sources. Disseminates nursing and hospital quality, safety and regulatory indicator data and make recommendations for actions plans. Facilitate the sharing of outcomes and practice improvements with staff at all levels and in multiple ways; monitor care outcomes in an effort to ensure gains are maintained. Develop tools for data collection; coordinate data collection, aggregation, and analysis. Lead collection of quality and safety indicators, maintain nursing quality & safety databases. Apply benchmark data to patient population when available. Track and trend data to evaluate effectiveness of interventions Disseminate data internally through reports and scorecards to facilitate decision-making. Disseminate data externally to national databases. Lead quality & safety program elements such as the Daily Check-In Call, Safety Rounds, Good Catch program and Power of One coaching activities. Assist with the coordination of quality, risk and/or patient safety aspects of continuous readiness programs such as from regulatory bodies; regulatory and accreditation preparedness activities; monitoring compliance with regulatory standards through various data collection methods; and inputs findings to Directors, Managers, or other accountable individuals. Oversee and lead the Nursing Safety Champion program, Safe Nursing Practice Committee, Skin Team and participate on other nursing committees as appropriate; address strategies to improve outcomes related to safe nursing practice and quality of care. Serve as subject matter expert in policy & nursing practice guideline creation and revision. Ensure outcomes and practice improvements are shared with nursing at all levels. Collaborate with interprofessional teams on problem identification and resolution, cost containment issues, implementation of new services and systems/performance measures. Nursing Science In collaboration with VP, Directors, and Managers develop a research process as principal investigator, collaborator or evaluator; support the integration of research into practice. Lead the translation of information obtained through Quality Improvement activities into Research studies as a method to formulate new knowledge. Assist with the dissemination of Nursing Quality, EBP and/or Research with staff through new hire orientation, unit in-services and other forums.
