How Our Program Works This is an after-school program - classes run in the afternoons, usually 2:00-4:30pm, depending on each school's dismissal time. Each art class is 1-2 hours long, plus paid time for setup, lesson planning, supply organization, and clean-up. Classes happen once or twice per week per school site, and each site runs for 8-10 weeks at a time. Teachers typically work at 1-4 school sites per session, and schedules may change with each new session. You must transport your art supply bin and materials to each school site. Class sizes range from 10-25 students. A Lead Teacher and a Teaching Assistant work together to run each class smoothly. Teaching Responsibilities: * Provides a grade-appropriate instructional program utilizing CA state standards * Plans grade-level appropriate lesson plans and unit plans * Prepares and maintains a welcoming, neat, and orderly classroom * Accurately assesses each student's performance * Supervises students on the playground and at lunch as needed * Participates in faculty meetings, school committees, and in-services * Attends other school functions and activities as requested * Willing to advance educational knowledge by attending conferences and professional development * Returns voicemail and e-mail messages in a timely manner * Communicates regularly with parents * Submits assessment data as needed and completes tasks in a timely manner * Demonstrates a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents * Observes utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, and staff information/conversations * Willingness to learn best practices in teaching SMA philosophy * Other duties as assigned by the principal Requirements Professional Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree (preferred) * Successful experience in student teaching or classroom teaching * A basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals and objectives * Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to the students * Appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environment * Active, practicing, Roman Catholic with extensive knowledge and adherence to Church teaching and life (preferred) Physical Requirements: To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must: * Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating * Sit on an occasional basis * Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces * Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending * Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class * Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
