Position Summary: In this position, the team member will operate all terminal equipment to distribute the cargo safely and efficiently to the appropriate cargo holds or warehouse as per the operating plan and instructions; Operate as a member of a team, responsible for coordinating information flow between each crew member and location staff/management in the receiving and loading of cargo. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: * Operates various types of cargo related equipment such as conveying equipment, dust collectors, ship loaders, monitor fire suppression systems and all associated equipment to load ships per operating plan and instructions. * Operates equipment such as diesel or gasoline powered forklifts, bulldozers, skid steers or heavy pay loaders, Ship Gear, excavators to perform any work for which equipment is designed. * Maintains housekeeping standards as part of fire safety program or as designated by location staff/management. * Responsible for checking equipment for damage or repairs needed and reporting information to Maintenance Supervisor or Terminal Manager. * Make regular inspections of the transport systems and perform minor maintenance tasks such as adjusting and lubricating equipment, cleaning, washing, testing, replacing filters, hoses, and other minor maintenance as necessary to maximize port systems availability and reliability. * Performs minor maintenance tasks such as repairing, adjusting, and lubricating equipment, gauges, valves, hoses, and etc. as necessary to maximize machine availability/reliability and assist maintenance personnel as required. * Complies with all procedures to ensure governmental, state, and company certification standards are met. * Performs all duties assigned by the Shift Leader(s), Operations Manager(s), and Terminal Manager to make sure port operations continue without interruption. * Ensure that safe equipment operating conditions are met before and during operation. * Works closely, as needed, with flaggers when making lifts or rigging equipment or material. JOB DESCRIPTION SCOPE OF DUTIES The duties of the Port Engineer shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following: • Performs site and vessel visits of the stack fleet and assists crews with maintenance activities in accordance with vessel preservation plan. • Assists where needed with project planning and implementation. • Reviews maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities and programs. • Inspects vessel equipment and its documentation for conformance with technical and performance standards. • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to reduce vessel maintenance and repair costs, by utilization of internal labor and material resources. • Insures by audit and field inspection fleet personnel adherence to regular maintenance and repair program work schedules. • Trains vessels engineer department personnel as directed by Director of Operations. • Fleet operations support functions shall include, but not be limited to, responding to requests from vessel personnel, vessel group managers, the maintenance and engineering departments for technical verification and/or documentation of vessel technical characteristics and capabilities such as: Machinery and cargo system readiness; Transmittal of appropriate vessel documentation to operations or maintenance representatives; In conjunction with vessel engineers, identify and plan shipyard/ major maintenance events, and in conjunction with the appointed shipyard repair superintendent audit of shipyard/ major maintenance budget preparation and post event analysis. • All other duties as assigned by management. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: One-year certificate from college or technical school and/or 8 to 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills: • Ability to calculate figures in amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Captains will coordinate and execute a rigorous daily schedule to support the facility, and customer needs as well as supervise daily, routine and emergency vessel maintenance. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: * Responsible for the safe and reliable daily operation of their tug * Serve as primary tug vessel operator, safely maneuvering tug and barge(s) throughout the UBT fleet * Direct deckhands in docking & undocking maneuvers * Maintain tug records including vessel logbook and HELM * Coordinate and conduct scheduled drills with tug, crew and port captain * Ensure vessels are always clean and well maintained * Ensure daily barge inspection/checklists are being conducted and completed in HELM * Prepare for and participate in USCG required internal and external audits * Responsible for the safe and reliable daily operation of fleet of two (2) assists tugs * Coordinate between boat and shore side staff to ensure safe operation of barge movements in respect to daily schedule, weather, shore side-line handling, assist tug operation, and barge maintenance. * Responsible for deck side consumable and spare part requests. Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required: * Minimum license: 200 Ton Master, inland, with towing and radar endorsement. (100 Tons with towing endorsement considered on a case-by-case basis) * Valid TWIC * Valid US Driver's License * Previous experience as Master of a twin-screw tug engaged in fleet work * Excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively/efficiently with crew members, shore staff, customer, and line handlers via VHF, email, and/or mobile phone * Ability to get along with crew members in confined quarters for prolonged periods of time * Must be able to direct, evaluate, and correct performance of subordinates * Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours * Ability to work 2 weeks on /1 week off schedule (unless otherwise agreed), around the clock shifts and holidays and weekend. * Willingness and ability to be flexible and creative * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook), PDFs, HELM, and use of associated computer, printer/scanner, and work mobile phone.
