What do clinical psychologists do on a daily basis?

• Providing Therapy. A significant part of a clinical psychologist's day is spent providing psychotherapy to individuals, families, or groups. This therapy can take many forms, including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, or other types of talk therapy.

• Conducting Assessments. Clinical psychologists often conduct psychological assessments to diagnose mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. These assessments typically involve interviews, observations and tests.

• Developing Treatment Plans. Based on their assessments, clinical psychologists then develop personalized treatment plans for their patients. These plans outline the type of therapy, its duration, and the goals for the treatment.

• Keeping Records. Clinical psychologists need to keep detailed records of their patients' conditions and progress. These records may be used for monitoring progress, for billing purposes, or in case of legal proceedings.

• Continuing Education and Research. To stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field, clinical psychologists may spend part of their day reading professional literature, attending seminars, and conducting research.
